Beechwood Hall and Rural Park

Beechwood Hall Sept.2007

Beechwood Hall is an attractive, purpose- built meeting place designed to exacting standards by the community, for the community. Financed with the aid of grants and by voluntary fund-raising, attention to detail has been paid at every stage of the project to ensure the hall will be used and cherished down the years.

The hall serves the communities of Cooksbridge, Hamsey, Offham and Bevern Bridge but we also welcome bookings from outside the area.

The building

Hall interior

The building offers versatile, flexible space using environmentally sensitive materials which reflect the natural beauty of its rural location. The hall is the first community building in the South East to use integrated renewable energy from three sources. Ground source heat and a wind turbine combine to provide underfloor heating. Hot water is provided by solar panels. Beechwood Hall is managed by a group of volunteer trustees with the support of Hamsey Parish Council. The AGM is in May and is open to all.

Relax, picnic, play

Tucked under the South Downs near Lewes, with outstanding views towards Black Cap and Ditchling Beacon, Beechwood Hall’s four-acre rural park offers something for everyone. There is a well-equipped children’s play area while older keep-fit enthusiasts can use the circular jogging track which runs around the park’s perimeter. Pitches are laid out for five-a-side football, junior cricket and stool ball. The park also offers a welcome rest point for ramblers on their way to or from the Downs. Its special picnic area can be used by all for lunchtime sandwiches or delightful summer evening barbecues. Sit back and watch the sun set behind the hills.
